Anne Swann, local historian and author, spoke at the Rotary Club of Marion on Thursday. She has written a new book entitled: “The Other Side Of The River – The Struggle For The McDowell Frontier.” During the time period around the formation of America, what is now McDowell County was the “wild west.” It was the western settlement of our forming nation. In fact, there were about a dozen frontier forts located within the county. Many of our forefathers and the county’s earliest residents were part of the turning point in the Revolutionary War with their actions at Kings Mountain. These and many other stories make up Anne’s new book.
