Rob Young from Chimney Rock gave the club a “behind the scenes” tour of Chimney Rock Park.  The park has been undergoing some incredible upgrades and is almost ready for the public.

Chimney Rock, a 535 million year old towering monolith, is a focal point in our mountains.  The views from the chimney can go as far as 75 miles.  It is a must see for our area.

The park was purchased by a wealthy individual in the early 1900s for health reasons (the air is good here if you didn’t know).  He bought the entire 500 acres for $500!  Over the time the park was developed and then held privately for 3 generations.  Recently, the state of NC negotiated a purchase and will maintain the park for future generations.
