Weyland Prebor from the McDowell Senior Center presented a program today about the McDowell Senior Center’s multitude of programs. The Senior Center started as a meal gathering in a church fellowship hall and then expanding to the impressive operation it is today.
MEALS: Our Senior Center hand delivers an amazing 185 meals per day – with the help of 75 to 80 volunteers. Weyland notes this is higher proportionally than most surrounding counties. Both the Marion and Old Fort centers serve free meals on site during the week days. They are free for folks over 60, $6 for all others.
MORE: The Senior Center is not just a place to meet and eat. It offers in home aid services, transportation services, Title 5 worker program (to place seniors in jobs), a service to answer medicare questions, a service to provide simple legal services (wills, power of attorneys, etc), a service to provide income tax preparation, volunteer opportunities, classes, exercises groups, and much, much more.
