Representative Mitch Gillespie was the guest speaker at today’s meeting. Mitch gave updates on the legislature’s effort to balance a 3.1 billion dollar shortfall they faced coming into the year. The budget was balanced and Mitch noted several things including the elimination of the 1cent sales tax (allowing it to expire as promised), funding for all teachers and even the addition of new teachers, adding 5 days to the school calendar, the state employee retirement fund being fully funded, a small business tax cut, etc.
