This week’s guest speaker was McDowell County’s new School Superintendent Dr. Gerri Martin. Dr. Martin started her presentation with a short synopsis of herself, her family, and her career in education.
Dr. Martin continued her “Good to Great” presentation with her vision for McDowell County’s education system. She explained the importance of global preparation. Next she pointed out that each student brings something to the table. Dr. Martin explained the need to engage students, teachers, community members and businesses as part of reaching a goal of excellence.
Dr. Martin then discussed her plan for her first 100 days as Superintendent. Her plan included asking lots of questions, analyzing the current status, planning towards improvements, putting the right people in the right places to implement the plan, and executing the plan. Her ultimate goal is to reach higher for world class excellence while helping kids to be what they can be.
