This week’s Rotary of Marion speakers were Chip Cross and Fred Weyler. On December 13 2011, both men’s lives were changed forever. Their sons Benjamin Cross and Christopher Weyler were in an auto accident. As a result of the accident, Christopher died at the scene. What transpired following the accident was a showing of faith and forgiveness by these two men. Chip and Fred each spoke about how they individually dealt with this tragedy.
Chip spoke about how his family handled the difficult task of dealing with their son’s substance abuse, legal responsibilities and the desire for Benjamin to change his lifestyle.
With his voice cracking at times, Fred recalled of how his family dealt with the reality that their son Christopher had died in an auto accident and how the Weylers ultimately, found forgiveness.
As a result of this tragedy, both Chip and Fred are now allied on a relentless pursuit to educate and prevent drunk driving. Together, Chip and Fred have spoken numerous times before churches, clubs and organizations sharing their personal experience with drunk driving.
