City Manager Bob Boyette and City Planner Heather Cotton gave the Marion Rotary Club an update on the Main Street enhancement project during the 10/13/11 meeting.
Bob noted that a vital, attractive Main Street is the hub of any community. Often, industry officials will want to visit a downtown area to get a feel for the community. Therefore, this project has been a high priority for the city for many years.
In fact, the first “enhancement” in the plan came 20 years ago when the overhead power lines where removed. Main Street has been on a continual enhancement plan since and will soon culminate in a beautiful street.
Some things that Bob and Heather noted were that there are actually 5 more parking spaces along Main Street than before, the NCDOT would not allow angle parking (as the city wanted) but only approved the current layout, and that more landscaping will take place next spring.
